FAQ

Common questions and answers about this topic.

What match formats does this table tennis scoreboard support?

It includes common presets — best of 3, 5, and 7 games at 11 points, plus a legacy 21-point format. You can also pick "Custom" to set your own games-to-win, points-per-game, and whether a 2-point lead is required, which is handy for casual rules or training drills.

How does the serve indicator work?

Following ITTF rules, service alternates every 2 points. Once both players reach the deuce threshold (for example 10–10 in an 11-point game), service alternates every single point. The scoreboard automatically figures out who is serving from the current score and shows a 🏓 "Serving" badge next to that player. Each new game the first server alternates too — you can set who serves first in Match settings.

What does "win by two points" mean and when does deuce apply?

In standard rules a game is won at 11 points, but if the score reaches 10–10 you must lead by two clear points to take the game (11–13, 12–14, and so on). That is the deuce situation. When "win by two points" is enabled, the scoreboard won't award a game until the two-point margin is met; turn it off in Custom mode if you prefer a sudden-death point.

Will my scores be saved if I refresh or close the page?

Yes. Player names, the chosen format, current points, completed games, and the first server are all saved locally in your browser, so reopening the tool restores your match where you left off. Everything stays on your device — nothing is uploaded to any server. Use "Clear scores" to start fresh whenever you like.

Can I use it on a phone or display it for spectators?

Absolutely. The layout adapts to phones and tablets so you can run it courtside, and the fullscreen button enlarges the points for easy reading from a distance — great for clubs, classrooms, or a TV next to the table. On browsers without native fullscreen (such as iOS Safari) it falls back to a full-page display that works the same way.
